Approval and People Pleasing

Proverbs 29:25; Galatians 1:10; 1 Thessalonians 2:4

 Reflection Questions

1.    In what ways do you long for the approval of others? How has this affected you throughout your life?

2.    Read Proverbs 29:25: What episodes in your past might lead to you desiring to please people above all else? As the proverb says, why is this “a snare”?

3.    What are your motives for trying to be a people pleaser? What fears do you have if you fail to please them?

4.    Read Galatians 1:10: What steps can you make to focus more on pleasing God and not living for the approval of people?

Going Further

Read 1 Thessalonians 2:4: What is the difference between not being a people pleaser and never caring what people think? What is the balance between living for (and from) God’s approval alone but not being dismissive of others in a negative manner?
