The Happier Life - Think Small

Matthew 5:5; Philippians 2:1-11

Reflection Questions

  1. What is your general understanding of meekness? Is it similar or different than the meekness described in the sermon?

  2. What is the difference between “thinking small” in your relation to God and the smallness felt from comparing yourself to others? How does one lift you up and the other tear you down?

  3. Read Matthew 5:5. Saint Augustine once said — “You who wish to possess the earth now, take care. If you are meek, you will posses it; if ruthless, the earth will possess you.” What do you think he meant by this statement?

  4. Why do you think biblical meekness leads to a happier life? How does surrendering to God’s way and will, over your own, actually lead to more fulfillment and meaning?
