1 Peter 2:9; 1 Peter 4:10; 1 Corinthians 12
1. Read 1 Peter 2:9: What does it mean to you that the church is called a “royal priesthood”? What does it mean to you that the church believes in the priesthood of all believers (this includes you)?
2. Read 1 Peter 4:10: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Not everybody can be famous but everybody can be great, because greatness is determined by service.” How do you think this statement translates to a culture so consumed with fame? Why do you think greatness has nothing to do with fame?
3. Read 1 Corinthians 12:21-26: How can we resist the comparison trap when looking at the gifts of other Christians? As Paul says, why do we rejoice when others are honored?
Read the entire twelfth chapter of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 12). Reflect on his ideas about the essentiality of diversity in gifts. Then read the next chapter (1 Corinthians 13) and reflect on Paul’s emphasis concerning all gifts being rooted in love.
