Luke 1:26-38; Matthew 1:18-24
1. What does the season of Advent mean to you? Why do you think churches around the world still practice a season of “anticipation” for Christmas?
2. With all the consumerism this time of the year, why is it important to remember the original Christmas story? Which character(s) do you resonate the most with in the Christmas story?
3. Read Luke 1:26-38 and Matthew 1:18-24. Knowing others would have gossiped about Mary and Joseph, how would you have felt if you were one of them in this story? Why is it hard to say “yes” to God when you know others may judge you in the process?
4. In spite of the judgment that would have come their way, Mary and Joseph said “yes” to God and showed their faithfulness to God’s will. How is your faithfulness to God lived out in the choices you make each and every day? When those choices are difficult, how does your relationship with God, family, church, etc., get you through the difficult moments?
Have you ever experienced a time when you were led by God to do something very specific? What happened as you said “yes” to God?
