Sent to Claim the Crown

John 1:1-5,14; Isaiah 64:1-9; Philippians 2:6-8; John 14:8-10; Luke 19:1-10

Reflection Questions

1.    Read John 1:1-5,14. What is the meaning of Advent for you? Why do you think we as a church observe a season of ‘intentional waiting' in preparation for Christmas?

2.    Read Isaiah 64:1-9. Isaiah 64 pleads for God to 'rend the heavens and come down.' Have you ever prayed for God to step into a situation and move to fix it?

3.    Read John 14:8-10. How do you believe the Incarnation, Jesus Christ, is an answer for both Isaiah and Phillip?

4.    Read Philippians 2:6-8. Jesus was sent to “claim the crown” as King over all creation. How is Jesus’ Kingdom different than our kingdoms? What values and characteristics does His Kingdom have and how can we witness them in our lives?

Going Further

Read Luke 19:1-10. How is the story of Zacchaeus an example of how we should respond to Jesus as King of our lives? What do you think it means that we must prepare our hearts to be Jesus’ throne if we want him to be the King of our lives? How does this attitude change our behaviors?
