One of the first things I was told about when I arrived at Assurance was the Autumn and Spring Consignment Sales. So many people said something like, “just wait…you won’t believe it.” They were correct. It is only Wednesday as I write this, and I am already blown away by the scale of the whole operation. So many clothes. So many toys. So many books. So many…well, you get the picture.
Yet, the size of the whole thing pales in comparison to the size of the spirit found through the work of all the volunteers. Since arriving at Assurance, I have been blown away by the commitment level of this entire church. So many amazing ministries run by so many passionate volunteers. The Consignment Sale is a great example of this very thing.
“They will know we are Christians by our love.” I’m sure you have heard that before. I’m sure you have sang that before. But what is love? It can be a word. No doubt! And words matter! Yet, throughout history, every culture and society has said that words are not as powerful as actions. Or they say that actions speak louder than words. The willingness and desire to serve others has always been the greatest illustration of what is in someone’s heart. As I look at all of these wonderful volunteers, running around the building, I see love. I see love in action. I see Jesus in the folding of a shirt. I see Jesus in the organization of sizing the clothes. I see Jesus in the joy of the toy section so meticulously displayed. I see Jesus in the volunteers who make sure that all of the meals are covered for all of the other volunteers. I see…I see so much.
And what I see is a wonderful illustration of the Kingdom of God at work – The Consigning-Kingdom.
As my third month begins with all of you, I am once again reminded how blessed I am be at this wonderful place. All of you truly embody the statement of “Growing in Jesus, Going in Service.” This week, I am also especially thankful for all of the hard working volunteers making the Consignment Sale possible. They are truly an inspiration of what serving is all about. Assurance rocks!
I pray you have a great week, and I hope to see you Sunday!
